Abstract

This research analyzes the obstacles of the Pension System reforms in Chile, despite the persistent social manifestations in favor of structural changes. The obstacles come from an institutional context that produced asymmetric power relations between the actors, which facilitated the influence of the AFPs in defending the status quo. In this way, the first part describes the Chilean Pension System and the institutional context in which it was developed, also it describes the processes that have arisen since 2006 to make changes to it. Secondly, the strategies of the AFPs in pursuit of the defense of the status quo are exposed, defining their resources of instrumental power.
